My Broken Nose
“C’mon, C’mon get up time for school its quarter to seven already!” My Mum squealed at us. I slowly wearily got out of bed and got ready for school. My soft warm clothes going on my body and the touch of hot bagel on my lips in the winter cold. I thought to myself what could go wrong. But the fun just hadn’t started. My dry cold coat slipped on my body as I got my shoes and off I went biking to school. I wasn’t late (Thankfully) but we did have math first so my day might not go too well. We had our math class and my 4th-grade teacher was fun and nice but seconds felt like hours and minutes felt like days I guess time flies when you’re having fun, and when your not, well it feels like a lifetime. I watched as the clock slowly hit 9:30 and as the walls of the classroom caved in on me I heard the scream, “Recess” someone yelled at the top of their lungs outside of our classroom I couldn’t see because I was already 3 steps down. I couldn’t wait another minute even a second, my friends and I went over to the covered courts and just let loose. We played some knockout and then my friend and I said goodbye to the others and waited for the PE teacher to come. I was so pumped for PE I didn’t know what to expect I was hoping for basketball but we were in our soccer unit so I didn’t know. He came up to the class and explained why we are meeting up here instead of on the gym or the field and that was because there were High School sports games on so we were going to play some ball up here, I was hyped.
The whistle blew like a loud siren and the game started, I wasn’t on a rusty old cement court I was on the NBA wood floor and they weren’t wood backboards they were real glass. With the first courter over we were up by 4, we could win if we played solid defense I was like a wild fox looking for its prey. I see to or more people in a fight it’s looking like the other time is winning I think about going in but then the ball rolls out of the rustle I go in trying to hit the clean up sweep but my undone laces said otherwise the soft leather ball brushes across my foot as I fell the winter cold air push against my cheeks and as I come down on someone’s shoulder I goo blank, I can hear a crack and see the blood but don’t feel anything im in pain but in shock I’m awake but my brains asleep, I don’t know what’s happening. After 5 minutes the game went on the sidelines what I think might just be a bloody nose but I was deeply wrong. I’m sat there not bleeding still in pain and still in shock but my brain has just woken up I feel like I can think clearly and that I’m not a bag of meat bleeding with a sore nose.
After about 10 minutes I didn’t see the pain going anywhere so I decided to head off to the health center and have it checked upon. But what I thought was just a bad bloody nose turned out to be a lot worse. As I entered the center tissue in my nose I told them everything that happened and when they looked at my nose and I saw the gasp I knew this wouldn’t be good I heard the tremble in the nurse’s voice when she said, “Jackson, You have broken your nose and we have called your Mum and she will be picking you up for the hospital in 5 minutes”. I was in shock, a broken nose will I need surgery will I still be able to play basketball. So many things were going through my head right now and there was only one answer that I needed right now and that was, where is my Mum. My Mum came within the next 6 minutes and I think she got annoyed at how many times I apologized on the car ride to the hospital but then I told her the story as we hopped on to the high way.
