Ode to fractions

 Dear fractions,

You puzzle me

Your numerator on the very top, how many parts you have of the whole

The perfect line separating the two, tells you apart

Your denominator, below your fellow friend, you are how many parts the whole is divided into

Together, you create an almighty fraction

Dear fractions,

You can be a mixed number, or a improper one

When you are mixed, you fixed the fraction, you are the perfect pair

A whole number and a proper fraction as one

I think you go to proper use, improper fraction

The number on top, is greater than the one on bottom

But you get the job done when multiplying and dividing

Dear fractions,

You always solve the problem no matter how big or small

Or you are the problem, dying for me to figure you out

From adding to subtracting, multiplying to dividing

In the large sea of math, you will stand out from everything

For you are beauty and grace

Dear fractions,

To the time, to how much pizza I ate (it was two over eight slices)

You always get the job done

The fun has just begun

No matter beautifully written on fresh captivating paper

Or typed onto a computer in black and white,

You will always be necessary in math
