The swim meet :D (you got this)

The swim meet.  BEEP! The buzzer went off. At that moment I noticed the swim meet had begun. It was Saturday, I had to wake up early which was dreadful. Of course I was exhausted but I told myself “victory shall soon be in my hand.” Here’s a quick introduction on how the swim meet goes. First you meet your coach. Once you’ve met your coach you will have him/her write on your arm about what you’re gonna swim for the race or I should’ve said the swim meet. They write a number on the right to show when you will swim.  But it’s not like we are gonna dive right into swim meet races. We need warm ups!!!! Warm ups are when you get to practice your swims. You have to swim what your coach wrote on your arm.  So technically after we do warm ups we have diving practice. Diving practice is my fear sometimes. I always feel like someone is holding my foot not letting me go. I once did a belly flop… ANYWAY! After we finished our warm up and diving practices we went straight to bei...

The White Sands

The White Sands   It was a cold winter morning. Me and my parents were heading toward a place called the White Sands. The name filled me with wonder. Could a sand ever be white? As I was thinking about the White Sands, we arrived at the White Sands national park guide center. That was a place where we could burrow sleighs, buy White Sands goods, and even food! My parents borrowed 3 sleighs and got us some maps of the White Sands. After that, me and my parents loaded our sleighs into the trunk and we were off to the White Sands. I saw a patch of white glinting in the sunlight faraway, as we neared the White Sands. I started to quiver with excitement. 10 minutes later…. I stepped out of my car, to see hills and hills of pure white sands in front of me. I had...

I can do it.

My hand ached and objected when I first started 1… 2… 3…. Only 7 more pushups to go! 4… 5... 6… My hands screamed and objected until my knees hit the ground and I stopped. The aroma of all kinds of sweat fills the air.  “Ok, 5 SECOND REST!” The PE teacher hollered, “Next exercise, my ULTIMATE FAVOURITE, plank rotation!” Everyone groaned  Let's all die together! I added on in my mind. Push up, twist. Push up, Twist 3… 4…. My head throbbed like a hammer hit my head. 5… 6…. 7….  I stopped at about 8 and my knees protested.  “ That's it folks! Don’t forget to sanitize your hands,” The teacher said as she waved a piece of hair out of her face.  My classmates raced across the field, while I was left behind with a throbbing knee, or I thought I was alone. My friends came by and Zazu said,  “Come on! Your going to be late,” I sprinted with Zazu, Minseo, Eli and Niomi, and my hair splashed into my face like the waves hitting the sand. I changed out of my damp grey t...

Tooth

Tooth If you looked at my front two teeth today, you would never guess that I lost half of one of my adult teeth in 1st grade. That's probably because my dad is a dentist and made a fake one. Anyway, here’s the story of why I don't like sandboxes anymore.  In elementary school, the sandbox was the place everyone went to in recess. I don’t know why, but everyone did. Because my elementary school self didn't want to get left out of the fun, so did I. I didn't know it then, but that was the start of my Post-Traumatic-Sandbox-Disorder(No, that's not actually a thing). One day, me and a few other people were playing in the sandbox, when suddenly, someone threw a shovel at me. It flew into the air. I stopped moving to see where it was headed. Unfortunately, it ...

The Time I Surfed a Five Foot Wave

When I was riding my friend's parents' truck on my way to the beach I watched the sunrise. I had this good feeling I was going to get some good waves that day. We arrived at the beach, waxed our boards and started to get our wetsuits on for the water. Once we were done wrestling our wetsuits to become comfortable on our body. We started for the blood freezing water. Each step across the cold sand felt good because it was my 2nd time out in the water since I broke my finger. The sand started to become more damp than cold each step I took to make it to the water. We arrived watching each wave crash one after another while we put our leashes on and waited for a good time to paddle out. Then we all made a fast break for the water when we saw an opening between waves, we trekked through the water and jumped on our boards. We immediately started paddling trying our best to stay out of the almost frozen water. As we paddled one of the first waves hit it swallowed me while I tried to g...

Tower of Terror

Tower of Terror This is a story about, probably 2 to 3 years ago. I remember that it was a day that wasn’t too hot but not too cold either. My family and I went to Disney Sea. I was tremendously excited. Especially about riding the Tower of Terror. I actually do NOT remember why I wanted to ride it. Of course now I love rides that fall down, like the ride “Ston” (it’s actually Japanese) in Yomiuri Land. Anyways I just really, wanted to ride it.       “Dad, can we ride Tower of Terror first?” I asked, probably for around the third time. (In real life all of the conversations were probably in Japanese) Sounding a little annoyed my Dad answered, “Yes, you already asked me that question several times. Also aren’t you scared?”          “No, not at all,” I said proudly.         “Fine, fine, it’s your choice,” my dad sighed. My mom doesn't really like rides like roller coasters, or rides that go down really fast like the To...

Saucer Swings

When I was in the ES, there was this thing called the Saucer Swing where you could ride with up to 2-4 people.  I said it was  because it isn’t there anymore:(.  In its place now there are normal swings instead of the  Saucer Swings.  When  I first  went on it was metallic it felt cool when it was hot  and was shaped like an upside down UFO. There were two gray wirings on the side. When it was time for recess  it was like I was in a very famous amusement park filled with family and friends. There are rules in order to ride theSwing though like, you HAD to count to 60 sec and when you were done you had to yell “60!!” to the people  who were riding the Swing. You could ride with your buddies/friends.Once when I was coming down from the 3rd grade stairs there were a lot of people just piled onto each other  on both of the swings like a messy stack of  pancakes piled on top of each other. Then I heard a sque...

My Broken Nose

“C’mon, C’mon get up time for school its quarter to seven already!” My Mum squealed at us. I slowly wearily got out of bed and got ready for school. My soft warm clothes going on my body and the touch of hot bagel on my lips in the winter cold. I thought to myself what could go wrong. But the fun just hadn’t started.  My dry cold coat slipped on my body as I got my shoes and off I went biking to school. I wasn’t late (Thankfully) but we did have math first so my day might not go too well. We had our math class and my 4th-grade teacher was fun and nice but seconds felt like hours and minutes felt like days I guess time flies when you’re having fun, and when your not, well it feels like a lifetime. I watched as the clock slowly hit 9:30 and as the walls of the classroom caved in on me I heard the scream, “Recess” someone yelled at the top of their lungs outside of our classroom I couldn’t see because I was already 3 steps down. I couldn’t wait another minute even a second, my f...

Fishing For a Romi

It was a cold icy day in my cabin. My brother and I were playing a board game in the cabin, with the electric heater pointing directly at us. My parents and our aunt were taking a nap before we went to a fishing place for dinner. It's pretty simple, you catch the fish and the place cooks it for you. “Uno!” I exclaimed.  “Why do you always win?” my brother asks as he gathers all of the cards together to start a new round. “Because I am better” I brag. “Do you want to go out on the patio?” I ask him. “Sure!” he says relieved that his losing streak in uno is finished. I pack all of the cards away with my cold numb hands, and I get up. My dog along with my parents is taking a nap, so I gently pat him on his head and open the door. The freezing cold wind hit my face as I took a step outside. It's beginning to become spring but the cold mountains made it feel like it's still winter. I see a bit of snow piled up outside from the winter. Most of it melted away. I breath in the col...

Lost in Odaiba

Lost in Odaiba Getting lost can be a really big event, especially if you’re as tiny as a mouse. You have to think, breathe, and cry at the same time! When I was four years old, I always tripped a lot, got lost a lot, and cried a lot. One time, I got lost in Odaiba, and a lot of polices tried to find me! And here’s how it happened. Maybe you’re thinking, “Why didn’t your parents notice faster that you were gone?”. Well, I got lost because I was going to race with my dad. Sometimes when you think that you know where you’re going, you end up getting lost.  My dad and I were in front of a famous robot statue called “Gandam” when the big problem happened. The statue was staring at me, trying to eat me, and rip me in half.  First of all, my dad was going to go to the shopping mall that was behind Gandam, when I asked him, “Can we race?” I didn’t expect to get lost because of that question. Of course, my dad said yes, so we lined up sideways, and my dad counted, “3, 2, 1, Start!”. My...
Never Eat a Girl’s Food  When I was about 3 years old I loved going to school. I went to preschool and I loved it there. We did arts and crafts played games and even had a big red plastic table with playdough to play with on it. And I loved to hang out with my friends on the playground. The only thing I didn’t like about preschool was a mean boy named Jonny he had dark brown hair, blue eyes, and a mean smirk that he always wore around. He would steal people’s playdough, eat people’s food, scribble on other kid’s drawings, and worst of all he was a pincher. He was so mean he was like Godzilla with tiny chubby hands. One day my friends and I were playing with some playdough when suddenly he took the playdough out of my friend’s hand with his little smirk, that was the last straw. I was about to say something but my friend pulled me back “it’s not worth it,” she said. I agreed she was right and then went on with my day. Suddenly it was already lunchtime and I was so excited to e...

The Thrill of my life

It was a very sunny February day, at school. The birds were singing, and the trees were swaying by the slight wind. Everyone in my 4th-grade class was happily learning, except me. I had something big on my mind. Something nerve-racking. Every second that passed, my nervousness went up. By lunchtime, I thought I would explode.  As we were nearing the end of the day, I was excused to go to the theater to change and practice my violin piece I was performing one last time. I changed into a black tux, ran to the practice rooms, and immediately started practicing my piece.  What I had spent more than 4 months of hard practice on sounded like crap. My A minor scale was completely messed up, and my intonation and bowing were completely off. What was supposed to be 30 minutes of practice time felt like 30 seconds.  Before I knew it, I was back in the small dimly lit cold backstage room. It smelt like burnt wood. There was a FOFA spotlight brochure on the table, so I decided...
